Peace Corps is a US government-sponsored volunteer organizat- ion that sends Americans abroad to live and work for 27-months.
Where do volunteers serve?
Volunteers serve in 74 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East.
What do volunteers do?
Volunteers work with local community members and associations in the areas of Agriculture, Business, Education, Energy, Enviro- nment, Health, Housing and urban development, Information technology, Transportation, and Youth.
Who is eligible to volunteer?
To be eligible you must be a US Citizen, have an undergraduate degree and a good health record. There is no age limit to serve in the Peace Corps.
What is the general program like?
The first 2-3 months are an intense language/culture/technical training program. During Pre-Service Training (PST) trainees will learn the local language, learn about the country and receive proper technical training that pertains to their job.
After training, Trainees are sworn-in as Volunteers and work for 24 months in collaboration with a local school or community association in an effort to improve their community. If Volunteers stick with the program until their Closing of Service, they will have an experience they can take with them the rest of their lives.
